Blind students tour the sculpture exhibit
Here is an article in the Santa Clara Weekly about a small group of visually impaired children who were welcomed to tour the “All Fired Up” sculpture exhibit at the Santa Clara City Hall. With permission from the artists, they were able to “see” the artwork on display by exploring it with their fingers.
Even though my fairy dragon sculpture is one of the ones that could not be handled (it’s too delicate for most sighted people to handle it, too), I am proud to be a part of an exhibit that opens the world of art for those to whom it is often denied. It makes me wish my big dragon snail had been accepted into the show instead — then they could have touched my artwork too! I would have loved to be there to experience it with them.
