Very cool, very creepy lifelike sculptures (not mine!)
This is both the creepiest and coolest thing I’ve seen in a long time, especially Jamie’s sculptures. I stared at all angles of this face (click here) and could not find one thing to tell me it wasn’t a real person… until I saw the scale.
I am in awe at his skill. But what intrigues me most is that what we might perceive to be “flaws” in ourselves — droopy skin, blemishes, wrinkles — without these things, we would not look real. And I think that can apply to our own sculptures as well. Living creatures have little idiosyncrasies and imperfections that we would be wise to notice and incorporate purposely into our sculptures — at least, if we’re shooting for ultra-realism.
I also find it interesting that he sculpted his self-portrait with the eyes closed. I wonder if it would have creeped him out too much to be staring himself in the eye!
